Jazz, my little 'Pocket Rocket' was the puppy I kept from Willow's 1st litter. Only 18" tall, she has never ceased to amaze me with her achievements, particularly her success in Working Trials, where she's proven that size isn't everything! She has also been placed in Agility Competitions and ‘A’ Obedience, and is qualified for Crufts for life, where she's won the Working Trials Bitch Class 5 times, which is a record. She has also been 2nd once and 3rd twice, over a period of 8 successive years. She just loves that big, green carpet at Crufts, which she reckons has been laid especially for her to strut her stuff. In her critique of Crufts 2009, Judge Jean Entwistle wrote "1st Tiller's Foxbarton That's Jazz, Tricolour, at 9 years this bitch could hold her own in any company. Very nice compact bitch, very well made".
Three weeks later, disaster struck. Jazz snapped a cranial cruciate ligament, just playing in the garden. We live on a hill, so have lots of steps that make the garden level, and poor Jazz misplaced her foot and slipped off the edge of one of them. My wonderful vet, Michael Lomax, operated on Jazz and he must have worked a miracle. She spent the next 6 months, and a small fortune, on physiotherapy, laser and electro-magnetic treatment and swimming to get her sound and fit again. But she is an indomitable little bitch, and nothing stops her for long - almost 6 months to the day that she ruptured her cruciate, she was back in the ring, winning the Special Open Working Bitch class at the Border Collie Club of GB Show.
At the end of 2010, I was delighted when Jazz made it to the final 4 in the Border Collie Club of GB's Vintage Veteran Of The Year. Then it was back to Crufts in March 2011 and a record 5th win in the Working Trials Bitch Class. Judge Sonya Saxby wrote in her critique, "A class of brains and beauty. 1st Tiller's Foxbarton That's Jazz. 11 years young lady, not looking her age. Prick eared Tricolour, lovely head and expression, clear eyes, lovely coat and condition, good muscletone. Loved her construction and attitude. Moved soundly, a credit to her owner. Tail never stops wagging".
Jazz was my very special little friend, and I couldn't have loved her more. She even found time to produce a lovely litter by Foxbarton Royal Lion JW. She won just short of 100 breed classes, over the years, thanks to all the judges who thought so highly of her. She taught me so much and we had such fun together. She had such a capacity for joy and loved nothing more than the games we played together every day. I loved her so and miss her desperately now that she has gone. Forever in my heart.
