Bonny is the second of Bliss's daughters that I’ve kept. Born in late October, she joined my "pack" in December - the worst time of year to try and housetrain a baby puppy, with all the cold winter months ahead. But Bonny was a little star and she started "asking" when she wanted to go out, so had very few little accidents. It was clear that she was very bright and she is - she catches on so quickly in training.
I decided to miss out the Puppy Course and start Bonny in the Beginners Class, with much older pups, but she still managed to come 1st in the end of term test. So quick to learn, in fact, that at just turned 5 months old, I took her to the Midlands BC Club Utility Day, where she gained both the Bronze and Silver Kennel Club Good Citizens Awards, and then passed the Border Collie Reliability Test – a tough series of exercises, including a 5-Minute Down Stay with Handlers Out Of Sight, and a 75yd Recall, with an Emergency Stop (Down) at the Half-Way Point. Bonny could be the youngest pup to have passed this test – I must find out!
At 7 months, Bonny came up trumps once again, at the end of the Intermediate Term, passing again with Grade A and coming 1st in class again too, bless her. The following week she passed the Kennel Club Gold Good Citizen Test.
Bonny began in the show ring at 6 months at the East Anglian BC Club Champ Show, joining the Foxbarton team for the Breeders Competition (see thumbnail pic on the left). She behaved impeccably and I was thrilled to be the first recipient of the club’s brand new team shield under judge Ann Jordan. Bonny qualified for Crufts the following week, coming 3rd in Puppy Bitch at the National Dog Show. And then she qualified for Puppy Of The Year too, with a 2nd in Puppy Bitch at Bath Champ Show.
Bonny went Res Best Puppy In Show at the Wessex BC Club Show, at 6 months of age, winning both the Minor Puppy and the Puppy Bitch classes, under judge Keith Baldwin. He wrote in his critique: "Tiller's Foxbarton Lady Orlando, 6 months b/w, the sweetest expression and feminine throughout. Head of good length, dark brown, oval shaped eye, scissor bite, neck slightly arched, pleasing body shape, front legs viewed straight with good bone, well presented, free mover. Best Puppy Bitch, Res Best Puppy In Show."
A month later, at South West Essex Canine Association, judge Cath Moffat wrote of her: "Gorgeous 7 months bitch with beautiful melting expression, good length to height proportions, with nice shoulder placement and good rib. In excellent condition, with well toned muscle and good bone, beautiful head with good ear and eyeset, correct scissor bite. Moved fluidly with good extension, a real happy showgirl. Best Of Breed, Best Puppy, Group 2 & Puppy Group 2." (The gorgeous Bearded Collie, who beat her, went on to Best Puppy In Show).
At Crufts 2011, Bonny was 3rd in Yearling Bitch at Crufts, under Sonya Saxby, qualifying her for 2012.
In 2013, I mated Bonny to my Rex (Foxbarton Kings Ransom JW) and, bless her, she produced her first litter of 5 gorgeous puppies in the wee, small hours of Christmas Day, (pic below). On the right is my lovely Dandy, (Foxbarton Kings Knight,) a beautiful Sable boy, who now has his own page. I repeated the mating with Rex in 2014 and Bonny gave birth to my gorgeous, dark Sable bitch, Teazle (Foxbarton Kings Sable). Teazle and Dandy adore one another, and like Dandy, Teazle also has her own page. ☺
Bonny is a sweetheart - not a mean bone in her body, and like my other Collies, she also loves a cuddle. She really is a Bonny girl!
